Code for parents

  • I will never forget that my child participates in this sport for her own pleasure, not mine.

  • I will teach my child that it is more important to do her best, than it is to win. That we, she will never be disappointed by the outcome of the competition.

  • I will never ridicule my child and never scream at her because she made a mistake or lost a competition. I will make positive comments that will motivate and support her continuous efforts.

  • I will always try to make my child feel like a winner by congratulating her after she competed within the rules and did all she could.

  • I will never forget that children learn the best when we lead by example. I will applaud the performances of my child’s team as well as the ones of the opposing teams.

  • I will respect my child’s competitors without whom there wouldn’t be a competition.

  • I will respect the judges’ decision and will encourage participants to do the same.

  • I will respect the coaches who give their time so that my child can practice her sport activities and I will show them that I appreciate their efforts.

  • I will never use inappropriate language nor will I harass verbally or physically athletes, coaches, officials, and other spectators.

  • I will not have unrealistic expectations.

  • I will never forget that young athletes are not miniature professionals and therefore, cannot be judged according to professional standards.

  • During a competition:
            - A club or a person (coach, gymnast or parent) violating the code of ethics after

    being warned will be subjected to additional sanctions that could even lead to suspension or expulsion from provincial events. The person involved must be informed in writing of the imposed sanction and reasons for suspension. A certified copy of the warning will be sent to board of directors, who will examine the infraction. The person who violated the rule will be invited to speak in front of the board of directors. After hearing the coach’s version of the incident, a decision will be made accordingly.

 

 

 

Code for coaches

  • Be reasonable with the expectations that you have of your young gymnasts, whether it be their time, energy or enthusiasm. Don’t forget that they have other interests.

  • As much as possible, group your gymnasts according to their age, skills, and physical maturity.

  • Avoid spending too much time with talented gymnasts. Those of average skills deserve your time just as much as the more talented ones.

  • Never forget that children participate to have fun and that winning is only part of the fun. Don’t ridicule gymnasts who make mistakes or lose a competition and don’t ever scream at them.

  • Make sure that the equipment and set-up respect security standards and they are in keeping with the age and skills of the gymnasts.

  • Consider the level of maturity and the age of the gymnasts to determine the length and skill level of competitions.

  • Show the team to respect the value of competitors as well as the decision of officials and coaches of opposing teams.

  • Follow the advice of a doctor to determine the right time for an injured gymnast to resume training.

  • Don’t forget that the children need a coach they can respect. Don’t hold back on praise when it is deserved and be a good role model.

  • Make sure that you are up to date on development and recent information in the sport.

  • Inform gymnasts and parents of the rules and code of points so they can understand the decisions of the officials.

  • During competitions, coaches must do the following:

                - stay with her gymnasts as long as possible on the warm-up or competition areas;
                - attend coaches’ meetings and collaborate with the organizer and judges during the warm-up, the opening                                   - ceremonies, the competition and the medal presentation;

                - respect other coaches and gymnasts;
                - makes sure that their fans’ cheers and actions don’t interfere with the concentration of other competitors.

  • With regard to the judges, all coaches must:
              - respect their skills and try to establish a good rapport with them; - avoid talking to a judge during a competition.

  • When there is a disagreement with a judge’s decision, all coaches must:
             - be calm and polite at all times;
             - contact the competition head judge for any issues regarding the evaluation of her gymnasts BUT ONLY AT THE END OF THE SAID COMPETITION.

  • Any coach who disagrees with a judge’s decision and removes a gymnast or a group of gymnasts from the competition at the beginning of the event will be liable for suspension. The group of gymnasts or the gymnast will be disqualified and the results obtained will be cancelled unless a medical certificate is produced.

  • During a competition, all coaches must:
            - behave according to the code of ethics. Neither foul nor offensive behaviour will be tolerated and any such indiscretion will be reported to Federation.

  • During a competition:
            - A club or a person (coach, gymnast or parent) violating the code of ethics after

The person involved must be informed in writing of the imposed sanction and reasons for suspension.
